The Observer’s Table provides editing, copywriting,
and wordsmithing services for businesses, bloggers,
and authors. You have a story to tell, and I’m here to help
you tell in clearly and engaging way.
I am an editor and wordsmith. I frequently edit outgoing business content, web content, and nonfiction manuscripts. I work with institutional style guides, CMOS, MLA, and AP. For those looking for more than editing, I offer a copywriting service.
Your website is the public face of your brand. Your website is where you tell your story, the story of why your product, service, or advice matters. A website scrub lets me edit the content you already have to create pages that are engaging, grammatically correct, geared toward your audience, and sound like the best version of you. This service includes an initial consultation, research time, so I can know your brand and industry, and SEO research on your top five keywords or keyword phrases. See my rates page for more details and pricing.
Do you worry your story will be overshadowed by grammatical errors or awkward transitions? Are you incredibly busy and need someone to give your blog content a once-over before publication? Do you have multiple contributing authors and want stylistic consistency while maintaining each author’s voice? If you answered yes to any of these questions, a blog tune-up is what you’re looking for. This service includes an initial consultation and industry/SEO research so I can understand the context of your blog. See my rates page for more details and pricing.
If the blog tune-up service interests you, but you want an ongoing service that caters directly to your blog, you need a managing editor. A managing editor oversees content publication for your blog. Duties can include creating and maintaining a style guide, working with you to help set realistic content goals, editing content, carrying out an already created SEO plan, and flagging copyright and plagiarism issues. If you have multiple contributing authors or are just looking to take your blog content to the next level, this package is for you. Duties and pricing for this package are dependent on the needs of the client. Contact me to set up a consultation.

According to the Society for Editors and Proofreaders, the aim of copyediting is to "ensure that whatever appears in public is accurate, easy to follow, fit for purpose and free of error, omission, inconsistency, and repetition. This process picks up embarrassing mistakes, ambiguities and anomalies, alerts the client to possible legal problems and analyses the document structure for the typesetter/designer." Copyediting works for your project if you have a mostly finished piece of content and you want it polished and checked for errors.
This type of editing includes the copyediting process and may also include, "extensive rewriting or restructuring." This is a great fit for you if you have readability or audience concerns or if you want extensive feedback.
The Editorial Freelance Association describes developmental editing as, "developing a manuscript into a coherent, readable work." Developmental editing includes big picture feedback such as how chapters or sections flow together, whether the goals of the manuscript are met, and recommended additions or cuts. This process does not include final copyediting.
Copywriting is creating original content with the goal of inspiring the reader toward action. This might include using your business or buying your product. If you are looking for someone to partner with you in creating cohesive and memorable content for your website or a client's website, this service is for you.
